ABOUT BLIND TIGER COFFEE
Hello there! BLIND TIGER COFFEE is a coffee roaster/coffee catering company that has been in operation since 2013, based in Old Town, Maine ("CANOE TOWN, VACATIONLAND,” bb). We love sweet coffees and coffees that have personality. By most folks standards, we roast coffee that tends to be medium-light/light-medium in profile. Ultimately, though, we prefer to let our tongues and noses dictate where the roast goes and not color. The world of coffee is a vast one and choices can be staggering sometimes. To help cut through the potential noise, we prefer to keep our offerings to two mainstay blends and a few limited releases that phase in and out every six-ish weeks. We do our best to carry something for every type of coffee drinker.
We do our best to roast only as much as needed whenever possible to ensure you’re getting coffee that is as fresh as possible while not having a ton left over for weeks on end. As of the moment, coffee is bagged and shipped on Wednesdays. To get in on that shipping date, we ask that you place an order by midnight the Monday before. If you place an order after said deadline and we happen to have enough coffee left over, we’re happy to fulfill your order and get in the mail for you by Thursday or Friday. You will receive tracking once your order is facilitated, okay?
We mail to all 50 states. We can mail to Canada, too… send us an email ;-)

Our Philosophy:
We want to make something.
We want you to make something.
We want you to act alive with other people in the real time...
& we truly want to help participate in an inclusive and caring community (the party is better when everyone is invited).
Maybe coffee could help with that...
We do our best to source and roast coffee that is ethically produced and paid for while keeping prices something close to (or actually?) affordable. It’s harder to do than you might think. Again, we think the coffee party is better when everyone is invited. And in reality, we think the more obvious solution is to pay workers in the US more so we can pay other workers in the coffee belt fair sums for the fruit of their labor. Coffee can feel like class war sometimes and everyone loses except folks at the top. But we don’t like that, so we’re trying to walk a fine line. (Blind Tiger is for the people, that’s why we’re Blind Tiger and not Blind Pig (look it up)) Who knows if this is working? We’ll see???Also, we’re trying to keep it sustainable. So, we use a variety of bags; some are compostable, others are carbon neutral and allegedly recyclable (and here’s to hoping your community has a healthy, honest, and reliable recycling program). And we ship via UPS and USPS cuz they’re down with unions, just like us. Okay, well, we gotta get back to work. <3 btc
Oh real quick: Land acknowledgement.
So, yeah, we roast in Old Town. We like Old Town for many reasons. It has a fun bowling alley, Happy Thai is pretty dang tasty, and a healthy mix of workers and university folks. But we’d be lying if we didn’t admit we have complicated feelings about Old Town. Old Town is located on Penobscot land. This isn’t entirely unique; a lot of Maine is and the entirety of this hemisphere was (and still is) the land of indigenous nations and cultures. While we feel like we barely understand the basics of the inexhaustible depths of coffee, we admit that we’re definitely not rigorously researched historians/anthropologists. And yet, it doesn’t feel like a stretch to say these lands were taken by force and manipulative treaties. But Old Town is actually supposed to be under Penobscot jurisdiction today. The nation was granted authority over all islands in the Penobscot River north of and including Old Town Island in 1796, 1818, & 1820. This truly is and should be recognized as Penobscot land. Life is often weird and complicated. They say that the moral arc of the universe is long but bends towards justice. We hope that that’s true. What does that justice look like? Who knows? We’re coffee roasters. But we’re down with transparency and we think it’s worth mentioning. Thanks for readin’ our lil’ shpiel.
